Increasing life expectancy and changes in the national healthcare system influences the growing demands for CNAs. Graduates of approved training programs in the state are eligible to challenge the state exam, administered by the Nebraska Healthcare Learning Center and the Providence Health Career Institute, and work in nursing homes, hospitals, and clinics after certification. Approved training programs include a minimum 75 hours of training. The course must prepare students for the written and skills demonstration component of the evaluation. Once an applicant passes the evaluation, the school will forward the results for the student’s name to get listed on the nurse registry. Consider the list of state-approved programs below.

Nebraska Methodist College

Students earn a certificate of completion and eligibility to sit the state exam after completion of the 4-week CNA classes at Nebraska Methodist College. The curriculum allows for 80 hours of classroom, lab and clinical training, which emphasizes all aspects of patient care. Instructors in the small-class setting pay special attention to the emotional and physical aspects of aging. The school offers a 6-week hybrid certificate program that features mostly online coursework with one on-campus session per week. Day, night, and weekend schedules are available.

Metropolitan Community College

Metropolitan Community College’s CNA course content follows the guidelines provided by the State of Nebraska. The program covers 9 units in 82 contact hours – students must attend a minimum of 77 hours in order to graduate. However, students must attend the full clinical training. The contact hours for the two components of the program are 59 hours for classroom and lab and 22.5 hours for clinical. Instructors issue a quiz at the end of each unit and the State Registry written and skills exam at the conclusion.

  • Submit a completed, signed, and dated application
  • Submit a completed, signed, and dated technical standards form
  • Submit a copy of current TB test results
  • Submit a completed background check form
  • Provide proof of English proficiency
  • Demonstrate English writing and reading skills at 1000-level courses through assessment testing or comparable coursework
  • Must obtain a satisfactory background check. Students with a felony will be dismissed from the course
  • Students who miss the first day of class will be dismissed from the program

The nursing assistant course is 6.5 credit hours and costs $436.50 plus the cost of the textbook ($55). The tuition includes liability insurance and background check fee.

Clarkson College

Clarkson College’s intensive nurse aide course prepares students to sit the state competency exam. Upon completion of the classroom and lab training, students participate in clinical sessions at long-term care facilities in Omaha’s metropolitan area. The rigorous, short-term program prepares adults to function as contributing members of the health care team and communicate effectively with patients and coworkers, Instructors will emphasize personal care, infection control, and assisting clients with restoration and rehabilitation.  All students must wear navy blue scrubs, watch with a second hand, and closed toe shoes during this component of the course. Graduates are eligible to sit the state certification exam. Day and evening classes are available.

  • Must be in good health and be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must provide proof of current TB skin test
  • Must be at least 16 years old

  • Applicants with open court cases should not register under the case is resolved

Quality CNA

Quality CNA is a state-licensed training center serving the Omaha area for more than 10 years. The certified nurse assistant (C.N.A) prepares students to obtain registration through state testing. Quality CNA in an approved testing center, so students can conveniently register and take the state exam on-site. The instructor, a Registered Nurse, teaches students all aspects of long-term care in accordance with the nursing board’s guidelines. The curriculum covers 76 contact hours of instruction in the classroom, lab, and clinical site. Traditional and hybrid forms are available. The hybrid program requires completion of 44 hours online and 32 hours in the classroom. Students must commit to perfect attendance in order to graduate and receive a certificate upon completion. Day, evening, and weekend schedules are available.

The nurse aide program at CNA Academy meets the educational requirements of the Federal and Nebraska State for nursing assistants working in a licensed nursing facility. The class is specially designed for those with and without healthcare experience. The curriculum covers 76 hours of theory and practical instruction in basic nursing skills, observation and reporting, personal care, nutrition, patients rights and independence, and hospice care. The training also includes one hour of abuse and neglect training. Graduates are eligible to sit for the state exam. The duration of the program is two weeks.

Providence Health Career Institute

The nurse aide program at Providence Health Career Institute is a blended course that prepares students for state certification. Students are required to complete 76 contact hours of instruction – 36 hours online and 40 hours on campus during scheduled dates and times. Students have the flexibility to choose their schedules for the off-campus coursework. However, the units must be completed within an allotted time.

Central Community College

Central Community College offers nurse aide training to prepare adults for inclusion on the  Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Registry. The curriculum comprises of 76 hours of classroom and clinical training in basic nursing skills, assisting residents with the activities of daily living, infection control, personal care and grooming, diet and nutrition, positioning and turning, and restoration. Graduates will be eligible to take the state competency exam to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant.  Classes meet from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

  1. Absolutely. I live in Omaha, Nebraska. I don’t think I’m far from going to 2 requirements for CNA class now. I just need to pass non-credit English class then I’ll be able take 2 requirements of CNA class.
