Certified Nursing Assistants assist patients with routine tasks such as dressing, bathing and nutrition, and mobility. Nurse aide programs have a critical role in the development of professionals who embody the art and science of nursing. However, there is a critical element not covered in the training that each successful nurse assistant must exhibit. That element is empathy. Numerous studies reveal the link between compassionate care and positive patient outcomes. Your success in nursing hinges on your ability to communicate your thoughts clearly, listen actively, and show respect and love. This aspect of care is as important as any technical skill you might develop or any regulation that governs your practice.
The rewards of patient care, job stability, flexibility, diversity, attract scores of eager candidates. But while many are drawn by the rewards and fail to consider the sacredness of the profession, the best nurse aides know that the greatest rewards arise from the impact they make on the lives of the patients and the relationships formed. If you genuinely care for people, working as a CNA will change your life and now and forever.
