Oklahoma’s Department of Health requires state nurse assistants, who work at licensed patient care facilities beyond the initial 4-month period, to undergo nurse aide competency training and testing prior to state certification. According to the DOH’s requirements, student nurse aides must complete a minimum 120 hours of classroom instruction and clinical experience in preparation for the state exam administered by D&S Diversified Technologies. Nurse assistants set the groundwork for nurses and other medical professionals to do their jobs effectively. They learn to observe and listen to their patients and make note of changes that could be detrimental to their health. Training programs not only prepare nurse assistants for state certification, but also for their critical role as part of a health care team.
