Oklahoma’s Department of Health requires state nurse assistants, who work at licensed patient care facilities beyond the initial 4-month period, to undergo nurse aide competency training and testing prior to state certification. According to the DOH’s requirements, student nurse aides must complete a minimum 120 hours of classroom instruction and clinical experience in preparation for the state exam administered by D&S Diversified Technologies. Nurse assistants set the groundwork for nurses and other medical professionals to do their jobs effectively. They learn to observe and listen to their patients and make note of changes that could be detrimental to their health. Training programs not only prepare nurse assistants for state certification, but also for their critical role as part of a health care team.

Francis Tuttle Technology

The nurse assistant training program at Francis Tuttle Technology is approved by the Department of Health and prepares graduates for state certification. High school juniors, seniors, and adult can attend the 9-month part-time 430-480 hour long program. Full-time students complete the program in 2 months, and part-time students take approximately 4 months to complete the extensive training. The nurse assistant training can also be taken as part of the school’s Advanced Unlicensed Assistant for additional job opportunities. High school students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA as a requirement for entry. Those taking the adult entry route must score at least 62 on the COMPASS reading test. Tuition for in-state students is $1,770.00 plus the cost of books, transportation, uniform and medical supplies. Financial aid is available for qualifying students.
