While there are few bridge programs in Florida, you can apply for credit for the foundations in nursing program module based on your training, certification, and experience as a certified nursing assistant. In 12 months or less, you’ll cover courses such as pharmacology, medical surgical nursing, maternal nursing, pediatric nursing, and trends and issues in nursing, and be on your way to licensure and practice as a professional nurse.

Lindsey Hopkins Technical College

Nurse aides may apply for credit for the Nursing Aide/Orderly module in the practical nursing program offered at Lindsey Hopkins Technical College. The program includes theoretical instruction and clinical experience in medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric, and geriatric nursing. Theory and clinical instruction will also cover acute and long-term care situations, clinical application of the vocational role and function, and family and community health concepts.  Course topics include nutrition, human growth and development over life span, body structure and function, interpersonal relationship skills, mental health concepts, pharmacology and administration of medications, legal aspects of practicing, and basic life support. The curriculum will cover a total of 1350 hours of training in the classroom, lab, and clinical activities at local health care facilities. Graduates will be eligible to apply to sit for the NCLEX for Practical Nurses. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm or Monday through Friday from 5:00 pm to 10:15 pm for 14.5 months.

Certified nursing assistants may enroll in the practical nursing program at Robert Morgan Education Center to prepare for the role and function of a licensed practical nurse. They may apply for exemption from the Nurse Aide/Orderly module and complete the program in less than 14 months. The curriculum covers 1350 clock hours of theory, hands-on lab, and clinical rotations at local health care facilities. It covers theoretical and clinical instruction in medical, pediatric, geriatric, maternal, and surgical nursing, acute and long-term care situations, nutrition, and community health concepts. The Practical Nursing program at Miami Lakes Educational and Technical College prepares students for successful employment in healthcare. Students will develop the competencies to care for patients in long-term care facilities, hospitals, and community-based agencies. In addition to classroom lectures, students will participate in clinical rotations at local hospitals and other health care facilities. Atlantic Technical College – Arthur Ashe, Jr. Campus

Certified nursing assistants with experience in healthcare may apply for admission to the Practical Nursing program at Atlantic Technical College. The curriculum covers 1350 hours of integrated theory and clinical training to prepare students to assume the role of a practical nurse where they will plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in hospitals and extended care facilities. Course topics include medication administration, anatomy and physiology, aseptic technique and infection control, Biological, psycho-social and social support, bloodborne diseases HIV/AIDS, HBV, care of the geriatric and medical surgical patient, communication and interpersonal skills,. Computer literacy, knowledge of the health care delivery system, maternal, newborn, and pediatric nursing, organizational skills, principles of nutrition, HIPAA, legal and ethical responsibilities, and principles of nutrition. Graduates will receive a Practical Nursing Certificate and are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN licensure exam. Certified nursing assistants may request advanced placement in the practical nursing program at Green Cross School of Nursing with the submission of documentation that they have completed an approved nurse aide program and hold a current license. The program administrator may request completion of a competency exam – a fee will be assessed. Advanced placement will be grated based on performance on the exam and verification of previous training. The program requires completion of 1350 clock hours of theory and practical education. It covers 15 modules include transfer courses. Course topics include community, family, and individual health maintenance, HIV/AIDS, CPR, fundamentals of nursing, human life span, nutrition, pharmacology and mathematics review, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical and surgical nursing, maternity and newborn nursing, pediatric nursing, community health nursing and geriatric concepts, mental health concepts, and vocational adjustments. Graduates will be eligible to apply to sit for the NCLEX for Practical Nurses. The class size is limited to 12 to 24 students with each cycle.

Certified nursing assistants may apply for admission to the Practical Nurse program at Southeastern College and learn the procedures of basic beside care to function in the role a licensed practical nurse. The curriculum covers 1350 clock hours of didactic and practical training. Students will learn how to take vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration, observe patients and report adverse reactions to medications or treatments, collect samples for testing, perform routine laboratory tests, feed patients, and record food and fluid intake and output. Students who have successfully complete 43 credit hours will receive a Practical Nursing Diploma and be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN for state licensure. The duration of the program is 12 months.

McFatter Technical College’s practical nursing program is open to nurse aides who plan to complete the training required to take patient care to the next level. The program nursing program meets the state’s requirements with 1350 hours of theory and hands-on training. Nurse aides who have completed an approved program and hold a current license to practice may apply for advanced placement in the program. The curriculum covers 5 modules including Practical Nursing Foundation I and II, Medical Surgical Nursing I and II, and Comprehensive Nursing and Transitional Skills. Graduates are eligible to apply to sit for the NCLEX to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Students attend classes Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm for 12 months. The college accepts applications and admits students five times a year in August, November, February, April, and July.

Graduates will be eligible to take the NCLEX for Practical Nurses. The duration of the program is 14 months.

  • Must be 18 years of age – provide a verified legal document showing proof of age required
