CNA Classes Burlington, NC

Dynamic growth in the health care sector creates opportunities for new health professionals, including Certified Nursing Assistants. Nurse Aide I training in North Carolina covers basic preparation for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam and the performance of duties in a nursing home. Candidates must pass the exam to be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.

Nurse aides meet the varied needs of the senior population. The North Carolina Board of Nursing outlines the tasks that may be performed by Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II professionals. Professionals on the Nurse Aide I Registry may perform personal care activities such as skin care, dressing and undressing, mouth care, and bed-making, turn and position patients, assist with ambulation, and range of motion exercises. They may also prepare patients for meal time, measure fluid intake and output, assist with elimination, measure vital signs, clean dressing changes, apply bandages, and apply and remove EKG monitor leads.

Level I Nurse Aides can progress to Nurse Aide II after completing an approved program comprising of classroom, laboratory, and clinical components. A licensed nurse will maintain accountability and responsibility for both levels of Nurse Aides. The training will prepare students for the performance of more advanced duties including oxygen therapy, tracheostomy care, changing of sterile dressings, break-up and removal of fecal impaction, removing oral/nasogastric feeding tubes, gastrostomy feedings, catheterizations, and monitoring flow rates. Nurse aides may use their education and experience to advance into other health care careers such as nursing or medical assisting.
