Durham Tech also offers a basic Nurse Aide I program through the Continuing Education Department. This Nurse Aide I program covers 174 hours of theory and practical instruction. The duration of the certificate program is 16 weeks. The diploma program is 10 months.

The Nurse Aide I program at Care One Health Training Institute prepares adults for entry-level employment in healthcare. The curriculum covers 105 hours of theory and practical instruction – 65 hours of classroom and lab and 40 hours of clinical experiences. Clinical skills include making beds, answering call lights, collecting samples, measuring vital signs, assisting with medical procedures, personal hygiene, feeding patients, and monitoring food and liquid intake and output. The program may be delivered in an online/hybrid format. Day, evening, and weekend schedules are offered. Day classes meet Monday through Thursday or Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm for 4 weeks. Wake Technical Community College

Wake Tech’s Nurse Aide I (NAI) program provides students with the basic nursing skills essential to employment in a healthcare setting. The 168-hour curriculum is approved by the NC Division of Health Service Regulation. It includes 100 hours of theory and 68 hours of practical instruction in basic nursing skills, personal care, the aging process, safety and emergency procedures, legal and ethical issues, measurements, infection prevention, communication, elimination, nutrition, mental health, end-of-life care, dementia, basic restorative care and rehabilitation. The program is offered through the Workforce Continuing Education class so students will not receive credit hours. A hybrid class is available. It covers 40 hours of online instruction – students must be able to access Moodle and have excellent computer and time management skills. Program graduates will demonstrate knowledge and skills required to success on the nurse aide exam to be listed on the North Caroline Nurse Aide I Registry. A Spanish Nurse Aide I class is available for Spanish speaking students who can demonstrate conversational English language skills. New classes begin every month. Day, evening, weekend, and hybrid classes are offered.

The state-approved curriculum comprises of 102 contact hours of instruction, including class, lab, and clinical activities. Graduates will be eligible to take the state exam to be added to the Nurse Aide I Registry.

Students who successfully complete the Nurse Aide I program at FCC will be eligible to take the NC NACES exam, take the Nurse Aide II course, qualify for entry-level employment after listing on the Nurse Aide Registry, and meet the pre-requisite for entry into an Associate Degree in Nursing program. The state-approved curriculum includes theory and practical instruction in growth and development, employment skills, accident and fire safety, medical asepsis, therapeutic activities, nutrition, personal care, vital signs, and equipment management. A Nurse Aide Certificate and Nurse Aide Diploma option is available. The Nurse Aide Certificate is designed to be completed in 2 semesters. The length of the Diploma program is 3 semesters.

The Nurse Aide I program offered by Nash Community College prepares students for the state Nurse Aide I Certification Exam. The program combines 160 hours of classroom and clinical instruction delivered in a blended format. Students are expected to complete the online assignments on their own using the provided study guides – there is no lecture component to the program. The assessments and final exam will be delivered online. Students will have opportunities to seek guidance from instructors. Mastering the NAI skills forms the bulk of the program. Instructors will demonstrate and explain skills throughout the program. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the state exam to be added to the Nurse Aide I Registry. The exam is available at NCC. The class size is limited to 10 to 15 students. The duration of the program is 13 to 14 weeks.

  • Must be at least 16.5 years by the first day of the program
  • Take and pass the reading and math TABE test with a score of 8th-grade level. The requirement is waived for applicants with an Associate Degree or higher.

The state-approved curriculum will include training in the classroom, lab, and approved nursing facility. Course topics include medical terminology, the role of the nurse aide on the healthcare team, positioning and transfers, personal hygiene, assisting residents with the activities of daily living, caring for seniors, dementia, basic physiology, recording and charting, and nutrition. The Nurse Aide I program offered by Guiding Lights is based on the North Carolina state DHSR curriculum. The rigorous but interactive course prepares students for success on the state exam. Classroom sessions and hands-on practice prepare students to provide safe and competent care for residents in their care. Clinical rotations begin in the fifth week. The rotations create an environment for students to provide basic nursing care and monitor residents for physical, mental, emotional and social changes and to report any changes to nurses.  After completing 40 hours of clinical instruction, students will qualify to sit for the North Carolina Nurse Aide Certification exam.
